M: 9/21: Clip: Matrix: Essential Question: How does the definition of a hero remain constant throughtout history despite differing political, social, religious, and natural environments? ~Quickwrite after the clip: How does the information in the video answer our essential question?

Last 10 minutes: Paragraph one of prompt: Driver's License. 

HW: Finish Hook, orient, and thesis (what you did not finish in class)

Remaining class: finish HOT and begin 1st body paragraph. Will go over the next components of the body paragraph requirements.

W: 9/23: Pass out Background on the Odyssey and the review of the Odyssey. Discuss as a class after students read about the components of the plot overview and epic/ epic hero. Begin, Homer's, The Odyssey. Audio tape and notes from pages 980-9985

Th: 9/24: Sub* I will be at an AVID meeting

~Read 20 minutes of outside reading book

~Students who need to get caught up to 2 paragraphs on shaping the essay need to do so for the remaining of class after finished the outside reading. 

~If finished find the definitions in the glossery section of your book the definition(s) of the terms listed on the Odyssey review worksheet. 

 

M: 9/28: Begin the Odyssey pg 981- Sailing from Troy- 984 The Lotus Eaters (Begin Review and Asses) questions 1-7 pg 985

T: 9/29: Begin the Cyclops pg 986-991 *Take notes on lecture and text. Work on essay prompt paragraph 2 and finish for homework also work on graphic organizer of character traits homer's the Odyssey

W: 9/30: Continue the odyssey pg991-996 with the Cyclops continue working on character trait chart and essay promptpargraph 2 and 3 should be in progress

Th: 10/1:Continue in the Odyssey 'Cyclops' pg 996-1000 'The land of the Dead' Students will continue to work on their character chart and take notes on the text.

F: 10/2: ***Quiz: Background of Homer's the Odyssey

~Creative Writing (20 min.) Outside Reading remaining of the class period. 

 

M:10/5: Odyssey pg 1000-1004 Finish the Land of the Dead- Notes and get stamped for 1. Lotus Eaters 2/ Cyclops 3. Land of the dead graphic organizer of character traits and when finished begin questions 1-7 Review and Access pg 1004

 

T: 10/6: Finish questions 1-7 pg 1004 in Odyseey book and after 10 minutes will check it off. Students will then take out their 'Driving Prompt' amd finish paragraph 3* focus today on counter argument/rebuttal ~Review two formates of argumentative format and finish graphic organizer 1. cylcops 2. land of dead 3. lotus eaters if finish early

 

W: 10/7: Shaping the Essay all period. It will be due at the end of the period. Should only need to complete last two paragraphs.

Th: 10/8: Odyssey pg 1005. Read The Sirens and Scylla and Charybdis. At the end 10 min. Fill out chart of Character Traits for the categories we just read. Last 10 minutes of class Study for Greek Gods Quiz on tuesday with God's Chart

 

F: 10/9: Groups of 5: Get into groups and give their rough drafts to class mates in counter clock wise rotation where they will have to read the paper and peer edit the paper accordingly to the timer. Rotate papers atleast 5 times and graded by 5 different peers atleast.

 

M: 10/12: Begin/ End: Land of the dead; Group sections of paper format and students will work in groups of 5 to write accordingly to the piece of the essay in their group.Share their section aloud to class so we can see what a paper should sound/look like in sections.  Ex., thesis, conclusion 

 

T: 10/13: Pass out Hero's Project and review components and important dates, Begin/ end: The Cattle of the Sun God, review and access page 1010

 

W: 10/14: PSAT testing schedule (PAC) All freshman to PAC and those that are testing to 900 Gym

 

Th: 10/15: PTSD:Bell work and class discussion on PTSD. Watch clip of what is PTSD. Students will bridge this back to the odyssey and a hero's journey and how it goes accordingly to hero's in general and in this case soldiers. Hand out PTSD Worksheet and will use this accordingly to the 2nd part of the Odyssey. Begin Part 2 of the odyssey page 1121- stop page 1027 take notes during lecture

 

F: 10/16: Greek Gods Quiz/ Creative Writing/Outside Reading 

 

M: 10/19: Odyssey Review- be able to identify and recognize the (16) list of terms for the unit. Will be handed out in class. Goal is to find 8 definitions in class for the first 15 minutes. When timer is up, students will open their literature books to page 1028- read sections of 'Argus- Suitors'. Students will take notes during and analyze pieces of information from the sections read. 

 

T: 10/20: EOS/WASC Survey in the Media Center

 

W: 10/21: Odyssey 'Penelope-The Challenge' (p.1030-1037 ) Review and Access Questions 1-7 due at the end of the period

 

Th: 10/22: Odyssey Project/ Questions Review/access pg 1039 questions 1-7 due @ the end of the period

 

F: 10/23: Odyssey Project and Grammar; page 408-409 Exercise 1-4 

 

M: 10/26: Odyssey Review- identify the next (8) definitions for first 15 minutes of class. Instructor will check them off after the 15 minutes is up. Students will keep this for study hall for the final for Odyssey. Students will then transition to reading from the Odyssey. Page 1042, 'Finish the rest of where we left off in, 'The Challenge.' ***Stuents will take notes and write a quick reflection on their over all analysis of the epic poem.

T: 10/27: Begin/Finish Penelope on page 1042- end of the epic poem on page 1046. Worksheet from the Odyssey, Odysseus and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. Students will be allowed to work with a parter on this activity for the whole class period to make their diagnosis of Odysseus and if he may or may not have characteristics of this prognosis. Knowing that he is a returned soldier from his 20 year journey,  a warrior from the trojan war. Due Thursday

F: 10/30: PostCard From the Odyssey. Students will be given a postcard that they will need to make in relations to the Odyssey where they can write the post card from the perspective of the characters as well as the recipient(s).
